Specialist Inclusion Support Service

The Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS) is a high quality, specialist teaching and advisory service, made up of 4 specialist teams. The teams provide a range of support for children and young people with SEND and their families, as well as assessment and advice, training and direct support to schools and early years settings.

What we provide

SISS aims to encourage schools and settings to provide supportive, inclusive environments to meet the needs of their SEND community, improve outcomes and secure outstanding progress and achievement for children and young people in Solihull with SEND and additional needs.

SISS is made up of specialist teachers and inclusion support practitioners with access to integrative play therapists.

We support multi-agency working, which involves working with other services who are already supporting a child or family.

The Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) team

The SEMH team are skilled and experienced specialist teachers who provide support for children and young people with a range of needs relating to SEMH within the context of a traded service. Schools and settings can purchase support from the team with an annual subscription.

The Autism team

The Autism Team is an educational advisory service that provides advise and support for children and young people who have a diagnosis of autism. The team are all experienced practitioners, with a specialism in autism and experience of working with children of all ages in both mainstream and specialist settings.

The Communication and Learning Difficulties (CLD) team

The CLD team are experienced specialist teachers that work with pupils with a range of special educational and learning needs aged 5 to 18.

The team provide an educational advisory service that support children and young people with a specific speech, language and communication disorder.

Activities provided by the team support a graduated response to SEND. Pupils supported by the CLD team will be receiving SEN Support in school or have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan.

The Sensory and Physical Impairment (SPI) team

The SPI team are highly specialist and experienced in working with children and young people who have a hearing impairment, physical disability, multi-sensory impairment or visual impairment.

The SISS service

The SISS service offers a range of tailored 'in house’, or bespoke professional development opportunities. This continued professional development can be delivered to individual schools, organisations or groups of schools, such as collaboratives.

We can create a package with you, based around your priorities for development. This could be for a whole or part of a training day, a series of sessions or even a webinar.

Making a referral

Only schools or health care professionals can a SISS make a referral.

If you are a parent or carer who thinks that SISS should be working with your child please speak to the SENCo in your school or setting.
