Short breaks are leisure opportunities for children and young people with disabilities which give their parent/carer a break/respite from their caring responsibilities. Short breaks are intended to have positive benefits for both children and young people with a disability and their parents/carers.
Our Short Breaks Statement sets out the leisure activities and short breaks offered by Solihull Council to children and young people with a disability.
It tells you about:
- the range of services available
- how to access them
- how we consult with parents/carers and children and young people
Not all short breaks require a social care assessment – Solihull Council subsidises a number of short breaks projects for disabled children, ensuring that activities are affordable for families:
Social Life Opportunities (SoLO) provide a range of after school, evening, weekend and school holidays short breaks on behalf of Solihull Council.
Some overnight breaks are taken at Lyndon House following a social care or health assessment of need. You can see its Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating here.
