QFT - Reasonable adjustments

  • Ensure the seating (whole class, group work, outside the classroom) makes optimum efficiency of hearing levels for learning – child or young person can see face, person speaking can get full attention of child or young person.
  • Always face the pupil when speaking, keep hands away from mouth when speaking.
  • Keep background noise to a minimum (close doors and windows).
  • Hearing equipment used and managed effectively e.g. assistive listening device.
  • Equipment policy in place for any loan equipment.
  • Ensure the working environment is well lit and the pupil has access to lip reading.
  • Make sure a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan, or PEEP, is completed if appropriate.
