Young people can have persistent fluctuating physical and/or medical needs, relating to physical disability or a medical condition, requiring an increased level of monitoring that can be met within school resources.
The physical and / or medical needs could have an impact on the young person’s learning and / or access to the curriculum.
These implications could include:
- Physical access to the building/classroom and movement around school.
- Recording work.
- Attention / memory, cognition and learning.
- Speech, language and communication.
- Fatigue and pain levels.
- Social interaction with peers.
- Emotional well-being.
- Independence.
Many pupils will be identified as having a special educational need and support provided through SEN Support. Progress will be monitored through cycles of Assess, Plan, Do, Review (APDR). Pupils may have other needs in addition to those linked to their physical disability and this process will enable early identification of any additional needs.
