Have your say on social housing in Solihull

Released:

Solihull Council has a housing allocations scheme to help determine how people qualify for social housing with its housing service - Solihull Community Housing.

Like all local authorities, Solihull Council  is required by law to ensure it has a scheme which meets its legal obligations and which enables it to determine priorities and procedures when allocating social housing. This includes how the council decides who should have priority for those properties that are available.

We are looking to update this scheme and would like to hear from a range of people with views on this.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Mark Parker, said: “We really want to make sure that we allocate social housing to those most in need and that we do this in a fair and clear way. We also want to make sure that we don’t have people waiting on lists for social housing when they are unlikely to be housed.

“The housing team has drafted a new policy for allocating social housing and we are running a ten-week consultation about the draft policy. We would like to hear from a wide range of people – whether you have direct experience of living in social housing, work in a related field or just have an interest. Please spare 10 minutes to take part in the consultation.”

The 10-week survey starts today – Monday 22 July – and finishes on Sunday 29 September. You can view the new draft policy and have your say here - https://yourvoicesolihull.uk.engagementhq.com/solihull-s-draft-housing-allocation-scheme-2024
