Solihull Apprenticeship Show opens the door to career paths for all

Released:

About 1,900 young people and parents learned about local opportunities from employers and training providers at the Solihull Apprenticeship Show.

The event took place on Wednesday 16 October 2024 at Cranmore Park. Apprenticeships at all levels, Inclusive Apprenticeships, Supported Internships and entry level work opportunities showcased the wide variety of career paths for young people.

A range of employers and training providers across various sectors including construction, creative, digital, engineering and healthcare were on hand to talk to visitors. Exhibitors included UHB NHS, Rolls-Royce, Network Rail & Avanti, Solihull College & University Centre, National Grid, Creative Alliance, BritAsia Academy, Nova Training and Solihull Council. Current apprentices shared their experiences with residents at the event.

The Mayor of Solihull, Cllr Shahin Ashraf MBE, said: “It was such a brilliant event and we’ve seen so many different businesses. It was great for employers and training providers to get together and help young people to understand what apprenticeships are like. There are so many different directions that young people can take with their future careers. You don’t have to be academic. You can use your hands-on skills and build experience through learning at work. I’d like to thank all the companies and organisations who took part for showing young people the wide range of career options available to them locally.”

Cllr Ian CourtsLeader of Solihull Council, said: “Youth employment has always been one of my priorities. Events like this help make young people aware of the opportunities on offer. The numbers attending reflect just how keen our young people are to find out about apprenticeships. It was a great opportunity for businesses to connect with young people in the borough. I’d encourage employers to sign up for the next show on 29 January 2025 (Wednesday) at North Solihull Sports Centre. Don’t miss the chance to speak to your future workforce.”

Cllr Michael Gough, Portfolio Holder for Skills, Employment & Inclusion, said: “We strive to enhance our support so that everyone attending gets the most out of it. Besides apprenticeships, exhibitors were invited to share their programmes for young people with additional needs such as Supported Internship. It was great to see so many residents came to the show and talked to those who can help them decide their best next steps.”

Chantelle Powers, Early Careers Apprentice Recruitment Lead from JLR, said: “We had a really great time. It has been completely non-stop at the JLR stand. We had so many great conversations with young people whether they are looking for options after their GCSE or A-Levels. I’d recommend this show to employers. It is one of the biggest events we go to every year. Thank you.”
