If you are getting married in a Church of England you should consult the Church Minister.
For all other civil and religious ceremonies you must give notice at a register office.
If you are getting married or registering a civil partnership abroad you may need a certificate of no impediment (CONI). You can find out if you need one at GOV.UK.
You both must give notice in person - no one else can do it on your behalf.
You must have lived in the district where you are giving notice for a minimum of 9 clear days immediately prior to giving notice (If you are marrying a foreign national outside England and Wales, requirements may vary).
Your notice is publicly displayed for 28 days, after which the authority for your marriage or civil partnership may be granted. Each notice is valid for 1 year, but if you decide to change venue, new notices must be given (GOV.UK provides advice if you are getting married abroad as conditions can vary).
If you intend to marry or form a civil partnership outside of Solihull, you should also contact the local register office for that area before you give notice, to ensure that officials will be available on the day.
If you or your partner is a non-relevant national
If you or your partner is a ‘non-relevant national’, this means not a British citizen, Irish citizen or granted or pending European Union Settlement Scheme (EUSS) status, you need to give notice together at a register office in the district where one or both of you live.
The fee for giving notice is £57 per person which is payable when booking the appointment, and you may need to wait up to 70 days before getting married or forming a civil partnership.
