Temporary closure of Bickenhill HWRC - 24 February - 2 March 2025

Due to essential works to enable the continued development of the HS2 High-speed rail line, it is necessary to close public access to the Household Waste Recycling Centre at Bickenhill for 7 days.

The site will be closed from Monday 24 February and will re-open on Monday 3 March.

We thank you for your patience regarding this matter and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

The new HS2 railway will pass under the A45 as it approaches the new interchange station. This requires significant work to the road network and its adjoining slip road known as ‘A45 Service Road’.

During 2024 HS2 has been diverting utilities and carrying out other preparatory work on the A45 service road, to facilitate the new road alignment. The next phase of that work includes the reconfiguration of the access road leading from the A45 Service Road to the Recycling Centre.

To complete this work safely, access to the recycling centre will be closed to traffic for one week, from 6.00am 24 February 2025, to 6.00am 3 March 2025.

We have selected a week when historically site use is low to minimise the impact of the closure on residents.

The site will be closed from Monday 24 February for one week reopening on Monday 3 March.

This option has been discussed with the contractor, but it is not possible to carry out the works safely and keep the access road open.

The waste transfer part of the site will remain open to enable the kerbside recycling crews and bulky waste collection crews to drop-off their material at the site.  They access the site via the dedicated operational site entrance which is not affected by the construction work.

We will also be carrying out essential maintenance to the site while it is closed to the public.

The operational site entrance is to the waste transfer part of the site and is for service vehicles only.  It would not be safe for public access to this part of the site and there is no access to the upper – HWRC part of this site from this entrance.

Unfortunately we cannot allow access to the site during the closure, but we can collect bulky items via our chargeable bulky waste collection service.

We also offer a free, bookable collection service for small electrical items, paint and textiles.
