Looking after your bins will help us to save money. You can do this by keeping them in a safe place and putting your house number or name on them.

Purple and Clear Sack Delivery

The way we deliver purple and clear sacks have changed. Rather than receiving an annual delivery, you will now need to request them. If your property uses purple or clear sacks you should have been contacted by the waste and recycling team, advising you what you need to do. If you have not received any communication from the team, then please contact us at collections@solihull.gov.uk. Please provide your address when requesting sacks.

 

Replacements bins

We'll supply your bins for free if:

  • you have moved into a new home and there are no bins available. If you are moving into a newly built home, then the developer should purchase the bins. 
  • this is your first replacement in two years due to your bin being lost/stolen

We will not supply bins for free if:

  • the bin is still serviceable

Pay for a replacement

You will need to pay for your bin if you have already received a replacement in the last two years.

This will be:

  • £35 for a brown or green wheelie bin
  • £29 standard black wheelie bin
  • £35 large black wheelie bin (if you already have a larger bin)

The price of replacement bins also includes the delivery cost. 

If you receive benefits you may receive a 25% discount.

Damaged bins

Before we replace a damaged bin, we may visit your home to check if it's still usable.

FAQs

If we are replacing a damaged container, then this needs to be left empty, clearly visible and accessible – do not leave bins in any bin housing or behind gates. If when we arrive and the damaged container is not left available then, we will not leave a replacement container and another request will need to be made.

We aim to deliver your replacement bin in 10 working days but please allow up to 20 working days at times of high demand.

We carry out deliveries from 7.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and may complete deliveries on weekends at times of high demand.

We cannot provide the time or date of when you bin will be delivered.

Did you know that we will collect extra recycling if it is placed out at the side of your brown bin? Extra recycling can be placed in sturdy plastic boxes (similar to the black box), hessian bags or jute bags for life.

To make the most of the space in your brown bin:

  • Break and fold cardboard down
  • Rinse all your food containers

Before applying please consider if you are making full use of our recycling service. By recycling more you could make a huge reduction in the waste you throw out. If you need any help check what we collect or use the A to Z at RecycleNow.

You can apply for a larger bin if you:

  • Are a family of six or more permanently living at the same address
  • Have a medical condition that causes additional waste

You can apply for additional sacks that can be placed alongside your black wheelie bin or purple sacks if you:

  • Are a household of four people permanently living at a property with more than one child in nappies
  • Are a household of five people permanently living at a property with a child in nappies

If your household meets the criteria for children in nappies we will only provide extra sacks in place of a larger bin.

You can place one sack out for collection every week for 12 months. We will not provide extra sacks.
