Once again, the year is drawing to a close and Christmas is nearly here. Seeing the Christmas lights in the town centre is always a special sight, and it’s been great to again see so many families and residents soaking up the atmosphere while doing their Christmas shopping or having Christmas catch-ups.
Whether you’re staying in, visiting friends and family, or doing something different this year, I hope you and your loved ones have a relaxing time over the next few days., enjoy yourselves, and enjoy spending time with the most important people in your life.
Of course, for some people Christmas may not be such a happy time. If you know someone who may be feeling a little lonely at Christmas, whether they’re a neighbour or a friend you’ve lost touch with over the years, do make the effort to pop round in person or give them a call.
With the fast pace of modern life, it can be easy to lose touch with people, but I know from experience that it’s also easy to get back in touch. You’d be amazed how often long dormant friendships can pick up from where they left off, however long it’s been since you last spoke to someone.
I know the people of Solihull and I see their compassion and warmth shine through in many of my visits across the borough. If you think that Christmas will be difficult for you or for someone you know, for whatever reason, remember that help is available.
As they did last year, my weekly messages will now be taking a short break for a couple of weeks. All that’s left is for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year!
See you all in 2024,
Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Council
