Solihull Council is looking for people to become independent members of its Audit Committee from December.
They will support the elected councillors on the committee, which plays a key role in ensuring the Council’s governance, financial procedures and risk management processes are sound.
This is particularly important during this time in which local authorities face unprecedented financial challenges.
Successful candidates will need to be totally independent of the Council and preferably live or work in Solihull.
The role is not open to anyone who is, or has been in the last five years, a Councillor, an employee of the Council or closely associated with anyone who has been a Councillor or employee of the Council.
Independent members are expected to attend up to six afternoon meetings and/or training sessions a year and to be available to liaise with senior council officers on an ad-hoc basis.
While this is a voluntary, unpaid role, the Council will cover travel and subsistence expenses.
