Carers Rights Day 2021 information event

Released:

The Council and Carers Trust Solihull are encouraging young people and adults who look after a family member or friend to join them for an information event at Solihull Moors Football Club on Wednesday 24 November from 4:30 to 7pm.

The event has been set up to coincide with Carers Rights Day (25 November) which raises awareness of the needs of carers, ensures carers are aware of their rights and where to get help and support.

There are more than 27,000 carers across the borough, providing unpaid support to a family member or friend because of illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or addiction.

Cllr Tony Dicicco, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said: “Whether you’re a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, it’s important to understand your rights and how to access the support that’s available. The information event on Wednesday afternoon is a good way to do this.”

He continued: “I also want to reach out to people who are helping a relative or friend but may not see themselves as a carer. If you are in this situation, help is available from Carers Trust Solihull. Commissioned by the Council, they offer support and advice as well as helping carers to keep connected.”

Brandon Scott-Omenka, Chief Executive of Carers Trust Solihull, said: “We encourage all Solihull carers to attend our event at the Moors and find out about the advice, information and support service available in the borough. Representatives from Solihull Council will also join us to share their plans for developing carers support and would welcome local people’s views before things are finalised. Anyone unable to come along on the day can also participate in the event if they have access to a computer.”
