Discretionary Housing Payments Scheme - find out if you’re eligible

Released:

Solihull residents who receive Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (Housing Costs element) may be eligible for financial support from the Discretionary Housing Payments Scheme.

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) are designed to help residents where their Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (Housing Costs element) does not cover the cost of rent. In addition to making up rent shortfalls, the scheme can also be used to help with a one-off cost, such as covering outstanding rent, a rent deposit, or moving costs.

Before making an application to the Discretionary Housing Payment Scheme, residents are advised to refer to the DHP information sheet to check their eligibility.

Councillor Bob Sleigh OBE, Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“The past few years have been extremely challenging for many residents, especially during the winter months, so we are keen to signpost the help available to those living in the borough.

“I’m delighted that we’re once again offering eligible residents access to Discretionary Housing Payments, to ensure that no one in receipt of Housing Benefit or Universal Credit (Housing Costs element) is left struggling to pay the rent this year.

“I encourage residents to check their eligibility and apply for the scheme as soon as possible.”

To apply, Solihull residents should complete the DHP application form and submit online. If residents require any help with their application or have any further queries, they should contact the Financial Inclusion Team on 0121 704 6202.
