Nearly 90 children enjoyed activities from bouncing on giant inflatables to dancing, and face painting to donkey rides, at a recent HAF fun day at Kingshurst Pavilion.
Part of the HAF (Holiday Activities and Food) programme, the event by Winnr Sport was free to attend for children whose families are in receipt of benefits related free school meals, with paid for places also available. John Lewis Solihull and Kingshurst Parish Council provided funding support for what proved to be a fun-filled day which included a free lunch for every child.
Solihull Council’s HAF programme continues during the school holidays, providing funded places for children via more than 35 providers across 42 locations, including SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) relevant places.
It’s also not too late to take advantage of family activities including table tennis, badminton or swimming sessions, which run until Sunday 1 September at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre. These include £2 family activities available on selected days/times for all families, through 'Everyone Is Family' - register here
As well as funded family activities for HAF eligible families and a free meal for parents and children.
Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Solihull Council, said: “It was great to see such a wide age range of children enjoying so many varied activities at the fun day in Kingshurst. Our HAF provider, Winnr Sports, delivered a truly memorable day, and I’d like to thank John Lewis Solihull and Kingshurst Parish Council for providing financial support to ensure so many children were able to attend.”
“There is still time for the whole family to have fun and get active this summer in Solihull, with activities available for just £2 per family at our two leisure centres, including table tennis, badminton, and swimming. Activities can also be accessed at no cost for families who receive benefits free school meals. I encourage families to take advantage of these great offers, and whilst visiting find out about the wide range of facilities and classes available all year round, at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre”.
Sara Breen, Community Liaison Co- ordinator at John Lewis Solihull, said: “We at John Lewis Solihull are committed to connecting and giving back to the local community. It was a pleasure for us to support Winnr through our Community Matters scheme, helping to provide a fun day for children and adults, creating many happy memories”.
