Solihull residents are invited to get their flu and covid vaccinations, to protect them and people around them.
Free flu and covid vaccinations are now available for eligible people. Both flu and covid can be life threatening for people in at-risk groups.
People entitled to a free NHS flu vaccine are those who:
- are aged 65 years or over
- are primary school children
- are pregnant
- have long-term health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, heart, liver or kidney disease)
- are pregnant
- live in a residential or nursing home
- receive a carer’s allowance, or are the main carer of an older or disabled person
- live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
Eligible people for the covid vaccine include:
- People aged 65 years or over
- Care house residents
- People with long term health conditions
- Pregnant women
People who are eligible for vaccinations should be contacted by their GP. Appointments can also be made via the NHS app, by calling 119 or by booking online at www.nhs.uk/bookflu or www.nhs.uk/bookcovid
Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health, Councillor Tony Dicicco, said: “Flu and covid jabs really do help prevent serious illness for people in some of the at-risk groups.
“The last thing we want to see is people getting seriously ill for something avoidable.
“Tens of millions of people are eligible for one or both jabs this winter. If you’re one of them, I’d really encourage you to book your free vaccination.”
