Have your say on Solihull’s gambling licensing

Solihull Council’s licensing team has a duty to license premises where gambling takes place and to license activities such as small society lotteries.

As a Licensing Authority, the council is required to publish a ‘Statement of Principles’ which serves as a framework for licensing decisions to do with gambling. By law, the ‘Statement of Principles’ must be kept under review, amended if required and republished at least every three years after a consultation has taken place.

The Gambling Act 2005 requires Licensing Authorities to consult with the police, people who represent the interests of gambling businesses and people who represent the interests of people affected by gambling. Solihull Council’s Licensing Team will be contacting a number of organisations direct to ask them to contribute to the consultation process, however, anyone can take part in the consultation and provide feedback on the draft Statement of Principles.

The consultation will end at 5pm on Thursday 14 November.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Wazma Qais, said: “We have a legal obligation to consult with relevant parties regarding our Statement of Principles. This helps to ensure that our framework for licensing decisions reflects changes that take place within the gambling industry and how it impacts on businesses, residents and vulnerable people in our borough. If you are involved in gambling or affected by it, please take time to read the new draft Statement and provide the licensing team with feedback.”
