Help and support at Christmas

We know that the festive period can be a tough time for some people. If you or someone you know is finding the Christmas season difficult, remember that help is available.

Simple things like going for a walk or speaking to friends and family can improve our mood. For those who need it, professional support is also available throughout the year.

Our Healthy Minds has lots of information on the support available for those who may be struggling with their mental health. Help is also available from a range of services:

  • NHS 111 - supports people in a mental health crisis. Call NHS 111, option 2
  • Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid - supports women and children affected by domestic violence and abuse. If you, or someone you know, needs help or support, call 0808 800 0028, open 7 days a week 9.15am-5.15pm. In an emergency call 999. Birmingham Solihull Women's Aid (bswaid.org) 
  • Here2Help – information and support to get help with food, fuel, or financial advice - Here2Help (solihull.gov.uk) 
  • Housing – If you're homeless or at risk of homelessness contact Solihull Community Housing as soon as possible: Telephone: 0121 717 1515. For more information on homelessness, rough sleeping and other housing issues go here - Housing | solihull.gov.uk 
  • KOOTH (11-25 year olds) - Peer to peer support - 2pm-10pm during the week and 6pm-10pm at weekends. Online counselling and support 24/7 -  www.kooth.com 
  • Elder Abuse Helpline: 0808 808 8141 
  • Samaritans - 24/7 listening support via email and phone, Tel: 116 123, email: jo@samaritans.orgwww.samaritans.org/ 
  • SIAS – For help with drug, alcohol or gambling addiction call 0121 301 4141, sias-solihull.org.uk
