The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Diana Holl-Allen MBE has chosen Marie Curie Hospice, West Midlands as her mayoral charity for the forthcoming year.
Based in Solihull, the hospice provides frontline nursing and hospice care and support to people through all aspects of dying, death and bereavement.
The Mayor, who took up the role in May this year, said:
“I am delighted to serve as Mayor once again for our wonderful borough.
“Choosing one main charity to support during my tenure hasn’t been easy as there are so many wonderful charities doing great things for people in the borough.
“However, I know that sadly many people are living with a terminal illness, and I have seen first-hand the great work the hospice does to support them and their families. As a former nurse and volunteer at Warren Pearl, as the hospice was formerly known, it would be an honour to support Marie Curie and help contribute to their much-needed funds.”
Councillor Holl-Allen has served as a councillor in Solihull since 1984 and previously served as Mayor in 1986-87.
She was awarded an MBE for services to West Midlands Police as part of the Queen’s Honours in December 2011.
Her extensive voluntary work includes being a member of the Children’s Hospice Committee and chairing its fundraising committee.
The Mayor added:
“Solihull is home to so many hard-working and generous people and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible during my time as Mayor.
“I cannot wait to visit all areas of the borough to see the wonderful work taking place.”
