The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Diana Holl-Allen MBE, recently enjoyed lunch with pupils at Marston Green Infant Academy as part of National School Meals Week (NSMW) 2023.
The annual celebration hosted by the Local Authorities Caterers Association (LACA) runs from Monday 6 to Friday 10 November. It aims to highlight the importance of healthy school meals to help children be at their best during the school day.
Solihull Catering Service is part of Solihull Council and provides school lunches for 70 primary schools across Solihull and Coventry including Marston Green Infant Academy.
With two seasonal menus a year, running a three-week rotation, pupils are offered a range of fresh, tasty and healthy meals, using locally sourced and high-quality ingredients.
The Mayor said: “All the food looks delicious! There’s a good range of options to choose from and it's great to see the pupils tucking in and enjoying lunch together in such a friendly environment. It was a pleasure to share such a lovely meal with the pupils.”
Head teacher Beverley Elliott added: “Providing pupils with hot nutritious meals at lunch time is such an important part of the school day. School meals play an important role in the well-being of pupils and helps improve their concentration and energy levels, as well as making sure they get the right nutrition in the middle of the day.”
Pupils have a daily choice of two main courses, including a vegetarian option and a dessert, salad bar, fruit and home baked bread all for £2.70.
