Solihull school children and other residents are now benefitting from five new Zebra Crossings to help them walk to and from their local schools and other amenities.
The crossings were installed following a review of crossing facilities as part of the Local Network Improvement Plan 2023/24 and are situated at:
- Blossomfield Road
- Dickens Heath Road
- Monkspath Hall Road
- Solihull Road
- Windward Way
In addition to the Zebra Crossings, further tactile crossings have been installed on Stanway Road and Radbourne Road.
Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member of Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr Ken Hawkins, said: “Zebra Crossings are a safe way for pedestrians to cross busy roads. People find them easy to use so these crossings are especially useful on established school routes. The new crossings play an important role as part of our wider strategy to support people of all ages to walk more and use their cars less.”
Deputy Leader of Solihull Council and Chair of Shirley Ambassadors, Cllr Karen Grinsell, added: “Shirley is a particularly busy part of Solihull, so I’m really pleased that Shirley and its surrounding areas are being supported with additional crossings. The more we can encourage people to walk in the borough the better as we will all benefit from cleaner air with less car usage.”
