Thanks to a successful bid by the Forestry Commission to the Local Authority Treescape Fund (LATF), another 350 trees will be planted in north Solihull.
Work started before Christmas in Castle Bromwich and will continue throughout the tree planting season in Kingshurst, Fordbridge and Chelmsley Wood.
The aim of the LATF project is to restore tree cover in non-woodland areas which may have been affected by disease or aging trees. The new trees are being planted in verges and community spaces and will help reduce air pollution and combat some of the affects of climate change. This latest tree planting project also contributes to Solihull’s Planting Our Future campaign to plant 250,000 trees in 10 years.
Leader of Solihull Council, Cllr Ian Courts, said: “These additional 350 trees are another step closer to our target of planting 250,000 trees by 2030.
“This latest tree planting project, using government funding secured by the Forestry Commission, will help to restore tree cover in the area and bring lots of environmental benefits.
“As well as providing new habitats for small animals, bugs and birds, the trees will help to capture and store carbon, reduce air pollution and reduce flooding. They will also enhance the environment and make Solihull a more beautiful place to live and work in.”
