Tuesday 26 July will see the Queen’s Baton Relay visit nearly every corner of Solihull as it progresses around the borough on day 292 of 294 of an epic global journey that has seen it visit all 71 Commonwealth Nations.
There will be community events taking place in locations all the way along the route. We’ve produced special expanded previews of what you can expect at events in North Solihull, Shirley Park, and Hampton in Arden Sports Club.
As well as these amazing events there’s plenty more family fun to be had. There will be community events taking place all along the route, culminating in an exciting musical extravaganza in Jubilee Gardens, where hundreds of lucky residents who won tickets in a free ballot will see On Yer Bike, a new community musical.
Whilst the extravaganza is the headline event of the day, if you weren’t lucky enough to get tickets there’s still plenty to enjoy, with The Band of The Grenadier Guards playing as they march along with The Queen’s Baton Relay through Solihull town centre at 6.30pm. There will also be a multitude of cultural experiences to enjoy, ranging from giant trees, to immersive and chaotic PE lessons.
Of course, a day with so many events does mean that in order to keep everyone safe, from the Batonbearers and spectators to Perry the Bull, some road closures are in place. Most are rolling closures that will start around 20 minutes before the baton is due to arrive but some last longer.
