Solihull Council is encouraging smokers to kick the habit this Stoptober with the help of Solihull Lifestyle Service.
Stoptober runs from 1 October for 28 days and with COVID-19 circulating there has never been a better time to quit. Smokers can be more susceptible to COVID-19 and experience severer symptoms.
By quitting, smokers may reduce their risks to the virus as well as bringing immediate health benefits. This is particularly important for individuals and for the NHS at a time of intense pressure on the health service.
People who live in Solihull, or have a Solihull GP, can get FREE one-to-one specialist support from Solihull Lifestyle Service to stop smoking. Those wanting to quit can call 0800 599 9880. Support can be provided on the phone, online, via WhatsApp or face-to-face, whatever people prefer.
Those looking to quit can also visit the NHS website and download the free NHS Stoptober app.
Solihull Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Councillor Karen Grinsell said: "Signing up to Stoptober is the first step to quitting smoking for good and to a healthier you. I encourage people to contact Solihull Lifestyle Service today as there has never been such an important time to stop smoking.
