Businesses in Solihull can find out how to become more sustainable and save money at an event in Touchwood next week.
‘Sustainable Solihull: Empowering SMEs for a Greener Future’ is hosted by Solihull Council and Business Growth West Midlands at Polestar in Touchwood on Tuesday 14 May between 11am until 12.30pm.
The free event provides information on sustainable business practices and the support available to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the borough, including through the Net Zero Grant Programme (NZGP).
The NZGP offers eligible SMEs match-funded grants of up to £100,000 to make their premises more energy efficient by installing measures such as solar panels, insulation and heating improvements.
The event will also provide information on the Circular Economy for Birmingham and Solihull (CEBAS) Project, which supports eligible SMEs to identify how they can reduce waste, energy, and operational costs, and benefit from free workshops and training events.
The circular economy is a model of production and consumption which keeps materials in circulation for as long as possible through strategies such as reuse, repurposing, and recycling, thereby helping to minimise waste and environmental impact.
Councillor Ian Courts, Leader of Solihull Council and Cabinet Member for Business and Economy, said:
“Climate change is the most pressing issue of our time, but action on this can bring real benefits for people, businesses and organisations.
“We want to help businesses embrace sustainability effectively to reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy costs.
“This free workshop is a great opportunity for them to learn more about some of the support schemes on offer to drive their own sustainable business practices, whilst contributing to our wider climate change, biodiversity, air quality and sustainability goals across the borough.”
The workshop, NZGP and CEBAS are funded by the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
