Solihull Council launches new strategy to boost tourism across the borough

Released:

An exciting new tourism strategy that lays out plans to enhance Solihull’s tourism offer and support the growth of the borough’s visitor economy has been approved.

The Solihull Destination Management Plan has been developed by Visit Solihull in collaboration with key partners within Solihull’s visitor economy, including Solihull BID, the NEC Group, Resorts World and more. It reviews how tourism in Solihull has recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic and how to support the future development of the visitor economy as it continues to grow, while also building on the Commonwealth Games legacy.

The five-year strategy outlines the Council’s aims to raise greater awareness of Solihull’s tourism offer, promote the borough as an attractive leisure destination and deliver outstanding experiences for both visitors and residents. In order to achieve this, the Destination Management Plan outlines four key priorities:

  • Improve how the borough is packaged
  • Retain local spend
  • Improve the visitor experience
  • Support businesses in the tourism sector

The Destination Management Plan has been developed alongside the Council’s ten-year Economic Strategy published in July last year. It is intended to be a ‘live document’ to enable Solihull Council and partners to be more reactive to changing economic and environmental factors as Solihull’s visitor economy continues to grow.

Cllr Karen Grinsell, Deputy Leader of Solihull Council and Lead Member for Wellbeing, Skills & Inclusion, said:

“We all know that Solihull is a fantastic place to live, work and spend leisure time. The key vision of our tourism strategy is to ensure that we promote Solihull’s tourism offer on a local, national and even an international scale so that everyone else knows too.

“Developed with the industry-leading partners that make up our new Tourism Stakeholder group, the Destination Management Plan sets out our priorities and the action plan for delivering these priorities over the next five years. This includes promoting our Night Time Economy, developing new programmes of culturally diverse events, supporting businesses to improve accessibility and focusing on skills, education and recruitment within the tourism sector.

“I am confident that carrying out this ambitious tourism action plan will boost Solihull’s visitor economy, enriching and expanding on the variety of business, leisure and hospitality opportunities we already have to offer as a borough.”
