Solihull Council seeks views on its draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy

Released:

People who live and work in Solihull are invited to give their views on Solihull Council’s draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy.

The draft strategy outlines how Solihull Council and its partners will tackle homelessness between 2024 and 2029. It outlines how organisations can work together to prevent homelessness as early as possible and also how to make sure people get the right support and access to accommodation.

The strategy has been developed with input from key partners and from residents who have been homeless to ensure that the approach is shaped by their experiences.

A 6-week consultation survey on the draft strategy is now available to complete on the Council’s engagement platform “Your Voice Solihull” and will be open for submissions until Friday 2 February 2024.

Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Mark Parker, said: “In Solihull we are committed to tackling homelessness and working collaboratively with our partners to do so, recognising we all have our role to play.

“We have made great progress under the Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy 2020-2023, including increasing the number of households that we prevented or relieved homelessness for (from 38% to 55%). We also recognise that homelessness impacts people in different ways, so we are proud of our track record of delivering bespoke solutions to meet differing needs including our rough sleeper accommodation and rent simplification model for young people.

“This strategy sets out how we will continue to build on our work, ensuring that no-one gets left behind. We would really like to hear from people who live and work in the borough – particularly those who have experienced homelessness or who work with people who are homeless – so that we get this absolutely right, so please spare 10 minutes to complete the consultation survey.”
