Solihull Council and Age UK Solihull have launched the annual Winter Warmth campaign to help people stay warm and well this winter.
People can call the Solihull Winter Warmth Helpline for advice, tips and practical help on keeping warm and making their home more energy efficient. The service is not just for elderly or unwell residents; it is for anyone who needs help staying warm this winter.
The helpline is available on 0121 704 8080, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, offering help with issues such as:
- Providing emergency heaters if your heating breaks down
- Receiving a ‘Safe and Well’ visit from West Midlands Fire Service
- Making a ‘Warm Home Discount’ application and joining the ‘Priority Services Register’
- Finding a tradesperson for emergency repairs
- Practical help on making your home warmer this winter
- Advice on finding a cheaper energy provider
- Benefits and debt advice
Solihull Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health and Deputy Leader, Councillor Karen Grinsell, said: “The Winter Warmth campaign will help keep people safe and warm during the cold winter months. Please look out for anyone that may need support from this campaign and ring the helpline for advice.
“To help you stay well this winter please also get your free NHS flu jab at your GP or pharmacy if you are eligible. This includes people aged 65 and over, people with long-term health conditions and carers.”
Lucy Garratt, Director of Services at Age UK Solihull, said: “Cold weather can be dangerous for some residents. Older people and residents with breathing or cardiovascular illnesses are particularly at risk and therefore it is essential that people call the helpline if they are having any difficulty staying warm.”
