Tickets for ‘We are Solihull’ are almost sold out as The Core Theatre gets ready to reopen its doors and host the Mayor of Solihull’s end of year celebration on 4 May.
‘We are Solihull’ will bring together an eclectic mix of entertainment into one electric variety performance in aid of the Mayoral Charities – Marie Curie UK, OASIS and Social Life Opportunities (SoLo).
As the Mayor and first citizen of Solihull, Cllr Shahin Ashraf MBE has served her borough since May 2024. Each Mayor of Solihull lays out their vision for the year, and this year the Mayor has successfully increased the visibility of her office across the borough.
This year in office has seen deepening ties between different community groups and strengthened community cohesion. As the first citizen of Solihull, the Mayor has represented everyone in the borough with pride. The Mayor has been particularly delighted to meet different individuals so involved in education, arts and music who make Solihull special. ‘We are Solihull’ will be the joyful celebration of this year of work, with all proceeds going to the charities most important to her.
The Mayor has helped to promote many of the key cultural events on the Solihull calendar, so it is only right that ‘We are Solihull’ should mark The Core Theatre’s reopening. To celebrate the return of pantomime to The Core this year, Morgan Brind will be in costume as a pantomime Dame, acting as compère for the event.
The Dame will introduce a variety of performers, including talented Ukrainian singer Mariia Zoria, Amara Latchford’s soulful voice, and the Boogaloo Babes will sing a repertoire of songs from the 1930s to the 1970s. The popular community choirs Sing Solihull and Pop Voices will also be singing, with the latter currently wowing the judges on Britain’s Got Talent! Audiences can also experience pop-up poetry on demand from poet Emily Holtom – the creative lyricist behind Verse & Vows.
A selection of theatre and dance groups and societies from the Solihull area will also be performing, with cover band 2 Weeks’ Notice closing the evening’s entertainment.
The Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Shahin Ashraf MBE, said:
“It has been an honour to serve as the 71st Mayor of Solihull this year. I feel so lucky to have used my time in office to meet and get to know so many different residents of our borough, and to represent our home at events that raise awareness and funds for important causes.
“This will be my last of these events, and I can think of no better venue than The Core Theatre to host it. As the home of culture in Solihull, it has been sorely missed and I know the acts we have in store are going to go down a treat!
"’We are Solihull’ is a celebration of who we are — our diversity, our resilience, our shared story. By joining us, you're not just attending an event; you're lifting a community, supporting local voices, and standing for unity. Buy your tickets, be part of something special — and let’s show the strength, pride, and heart of Solihull."
