Your future Solihull - Community buildings

Community buildings

Community groups could reduce their building energy costs and carbon emissions by installing renewable technologies, as well as making energy efficiency improvements.

Find out more about renewable energy and energy efficiency measures which could help to inspire greener choices at your community building.

The Council has also supported a number of Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) groups to improve their buildings by funding surveys which recommended actions to reduce energy consumption. Whilst this programme has now finished, there are many small actions which could help, including:

  • checking when appliances, heating and lighting are left on
  • using flexible heating controls such as a thermostat, timer, or thermostatic radiator valve
  • draught proofing
  • installing double or triple glazing
  • using thick curtains or window shutters to retain heat during the winter, and out during the summer
