Cycling and Walking

Cycling and Walking

The benefits of cycling and walking are numerous. Embracing active travel can bolster your personal health and wellbeing all whilst helping to protect the environment. Luckily in Solihull there are so many opportunities to stay active whilst travelling.

In recent years there has been significant investment in high quality cycling routes across the borough, cycling repair stations and we’ve seen the arrival of the West Midlands cycle hire scheme in Solihull.

If walking is more your thing, why not take a stroll in one of the 16 parks and green spaces in Solihull to have received a Green Flag Award – an international mark of quality. If you want to get an idea of the bigger picture, take a look at the Solihull Cycling and Walking Strategy to see how it all fits together.

Thinking about how to reduce your carbon footprint, save money, and make your operations more sustainable?

As part of Solihull Council’s commitment to active travel, clean air and carbon reduction, we’ve launched free e-cargo bike trials to help your business or community group understand how these new forms of transport have the potential to help replace car and van journeys on a daily basis.

These electric bikes are a great practical, sustainable and low-cost alternative to petrol or diesel-powered vehicles and can be used for a variety of uses – whether moving goods and equipment, to making deliveries.

What you could get

Four types of e-cargo bikes are available to borrow on a trial basis, with each providing easy access storage spaces with capacity to carry up to 200kg including the rider.

The e-cargo bikes can travel up to 40 miles on a single charge to make pedalling with a load easy. All bikes are compliant with UK Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) regulations which means they can be ridden like an ordinary bicycle, while they do not require a driving licence, MOT, road tax or specific motor insurance.

Solihull Council can also provide accredited e-cargo bike training.

How to apply

If you are interested in loaning a bike or want to find out more information about the trial, please contact the sustainable travel team at sustainabletravelteam@solihull.gov.uk
