LED Street Lighting
You may have noticed the street lights in your area emit a whiter light when compared with older style streetlights and their orange glow. This is due to the installation of modern LED lamps which provide a better quality of light, improved definition and less light pollution.
In 2020, the Council’s Street Lighting team took the opportunity to go ‘Pure Green’ using a tariff which supplies electricity generated by wind, solar and wave power. This move completely eliminated street lighting’s 1,500 tonnes of carbon emissions per year. Considering there are 29,000 street lights, illuminated signs and illuminated bollards on Solihull’s roads, this decisive step has made a significant contribution towards meeting our 2030 net zero target when it comes to Council emissions.
