Natural Capital Investment Strategy
Our natural environment is a vital part of Solihull, making it an attractive and beautiful place to live and work in. We are lucky to have a wide range of natural and semi-natural habitats within our borough, from rivers, streams and canals to ancient woodlands and wildflower-rich grasslands. These habitats provide a variety of benefits for other wildlife and for us, such as flood relief, improved air quality and other health benefits.
The Natural Capital Investment Strategy (NCIS) sits alongside our existing initiatives and strategies and is our delivery mechanism for responding to the biodiversity crisis, by protecting, restoring and enhancing nature in a sustainable way for all.
The NCIS sets out a series of actions from assessing the natural capital value of all relevant Council assets – especially parks and open spaces – to producing a natural capital database including an infrastructure assets map.
It also sets out how the Council will work in partnership with other organisations, partners, communities and businesses, to support the NCIS objectives and actions, including and contributing to and endorsing the , the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS), and the LNRS for Warwickshire and Worcestershire.
