Your future Solihull - Sustainable Travel Awareness and Support

Sustainable Travel Awareness and Support

The Council has a Sustainable Travel Team who can help residents, businesses and the wider community make informed choices when it comes to travelling more sustainably around the borough. If you’re thinking about walking and cycling more often, perhaps to and from work, they have some really useful tips. If you work in Solihull, you can find out more information about how the Sustainable Travel Team can help.

There are a number of cycling training opportunities which you may also be interested in, including adult cycle training, family training and even e-bike taster sessions. Thinking about how to reduce your carbon footprint, save money, and make your operations more sustainable?

As part of Solihull Council’s commitment to active travel, clean air and carbon reduction, we’ve launched free e-cargo bike trials to help your business or community group understand how these new forms of transport have the potential to help replace car and van journeys on a daily basis.

These electric bikes are a great practical, sustainable and low-cost alternative to petrol or diesel-powered vehicles and can be used for a variety of uses – whether moving goods and equipment, to making deliveries.

What you could get

Four types of e-cargo bikes are available to borrow on a trial basis, with each providing easy access storage spaces with capacity to carry up to 200kg including the rider.

The e-cargo bikes can travel up to 40 miles on a single charge to make pedalling with a load easy. All bikes are compliant with UK Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) regulations which means they can be ridden like an ordinary bicycle, while they do not require a driving licence, MOT, road tax or specific motor insurance.

Solihull Council can also provide accredited e-cargo bike training.

How to apply

If you are interested in loaning a bike or want to find out more information about the trial, please contact the sustainable travel team at sustainabletravelteam@solihull.gov.uk.

Solihull Council has joined forces with cycling platform Love to Ride to promote the benefits of cycling across the borough.

The scheme targets new, occasional and experienced riders and provides a platform to track rides, get stats and monitor progress, and join the growing cycling community in Solihull.

Prizes are given away throughout the year and there are challenges designed to build bike habits that can last a lifetime.
