Here are some simple ways to stay safe and reduce the risk of abuse or neglect:
- Stay connected with friends, family, and neighbour - the more people you’re in contact with, the stronger your support network will be
- Don’t hesitate to speak up - if you’re being harmed or neglected, speak to us, tell your GP or another healthcare professional you trust
- You have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, no matter where you live or receive care - whether it’s in your home, a care home, or a hospital
- Always keep control of your money - be cautious if someone you don't know or trust offers to help manage your finances
- When hiring a care worker, always ask for references and ensure they have had a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
If you feel unsafe at home
If you feel threatened or unsafe where you live, talk to your care provider, your family, or contact us.
