The sensory and physical impairment team is a highly specialist team experienced in working with children and young people who have a hearing impairment, physical disability, multi-sensory impairment or visual impairment.
Any concerns you as a parent/carer have regarding your child having a specific learning difficulty e.g. dyslexia, should be discussed initially with your child’s teacher and where concerns have been on-going, with the school’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO).
As part of the ‘graduated approach’, schools can request additional provision from the CLD team in the form of 1:1 or small group intervention to improve pupil outcomes. Ordinarily, the focus would be on literacy or numeracy skill development.
The CLD team offers a wide variety of twilight, half and full day training packages. These can be purchased as part of a subscribing school’s allocated hours, or as a ‘spot purchase’ where a setting is non-subscribing. Courses offered are aimed at developing understanding, knowledge and skills for staff that work in schools and educational establishments to support pupils with SEND, and in turn, improve outcomes.
Some children and young people with autism may need additional support as they transition (or move) from one setting to another. A range of help is available to support you and your child or young person to prepare for a change.
Co-production is where service providers work in partnership with other services, young people, families, and carers to ensure they have a positive impact on people people’s lives and are effective in their delivery.
There is a national framework that all local authorities must operate within for the funding of special educational needs in mainstream schools including academies.
All mainstream schools and colleges are provided with resources that they can use to support those with additional needs, including children and young people with SEN and disabilities
he CLD team are one of the two traded teams of the Specialist Inclusion Support Service (SISS) provided by the local authority in Solihull. As a traded service, schools can choose to buy the services of the CLD team with their delegated funding for children with special educational needs and disabilities. Each subscribing school is allocated a ‘named’ teacher. The school decides on the amount of support they buy from the team.
To establish a clearer picture of a child or young person’s profile of need, the Communication and Learning Difficulties (CLD) team often carry out observations and assessments of individual pupils, as requested by school.
The Communication and Learning Difficulties (CLD) Team is a team of experienced Specialist Teachers. The team is traded and can be purchased by all Solihull primary, secondary and special schools on an annual subscription basis. Alternatively, we can be bought on an ad-hoc basis.
These toolkits have been produced by the SISS Autism Team to support Solihull schools to further develop their understanding of good Autism practice and the implementation of strategies for pupils with Autism.
