Tools to measure and review progress
Many interventions include tools to measure and review progress.
Alternatively, it may be appropriate to re-administer a standardised assessment (ideally with a parallel form) in order to assess progress in a particular skill – although these should not be carried out within a 6-month period.
Progress data and skills based assessments can then be used to inform next steps.
If progress has been limited, further support should be more personalised and increased in frequency.it may be appropriate to adapt an intervention under the guidance of a specialist teacher or Educational Psychologist, for example.
Following at least 2 cycles of APDR, should a pupil continue to make insufficient progress, and their where a pupil’s response to intervention indicates that a particular profile of learning strengths and weaknesses may be evident, it could be that after two cycles of APDR, a comprehensive assessment of need is undertaken (e.g. to rule in/out a specific learning difficulty, to gain a Speech and Language Therapist’s view on the child’s needs etc).
