A detailed review is crucial to assess the young person’s physical and/or medical needs and the effect they have on learning and access to the curriculum which needs to be considered to ensure that the intervention and support is effective.
Young people can have persistent fluctuating physical and/or medical needs, relating to physical disability or a medical condition, requiring an increased level of monitoring that can be met within school resources.
Class teachers and support staff should ensure that they have a good understanding of the child or young person’s developmental history and learning profile and that they have access to recent assessment information.
